Most of the simple things in Linux such as basic commands and howto’s are oftentimes either being ignored or forgotten. I must admit that for one, I am guilty of such things. :”>
Just take for example changing the keyboard mapping on a Linux box. After so many years on working with Linux, I had never really tried doing this until now. I felt quite ashame but then again, I’ve never really got the chance or got interested on playing around with such things on Linux. As far as I know, I always use US keyboards with my Linux installations since what’s the point on using other keyboard mappings which I don’t use or have no plan of using.
So as for those like me here’s what I did to fix the keyboard mapping of a CentOS Linux box which uses Norwegian keyboard mapping. ![]()
- Edit the file /etc/sysconfig/keyboard using vi or pico text editor.
- Change the link KEYBOARD=”no” to KEYBOARD=”us”.
- Now reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
Well, that’s it! Your CentOS Linux would now have the right US-English keyboard mapping. Enjoy! ![]()
