Today is my first day of work for my new company. Generally speaking, I felt like a high school freshman going to a new school, not knowing anybody and very anxious trying to cope up with my new environment. That’s the reason for the title of this post. ![]()
Well, the morning started with the usual HR orientation stuffs regarding security policy and basic company policies. It was pretty informative since I was able to learn a lot of rules and regulations in the corporate setup. I must admit that I felt like the rules on LAN/WAN and Internet usage are quite strict and it may take me some time to adjust. Unlike in my previous work, wherein I am in charge of network connectivity and servers, this time I am merely a user since there’s an IT department handling all those things.
In the afternoon, after lunch I get to talk to the IT director for some orientation (again!), regarding my job description, tasks, and some introductions on the department I’ll be working with which is the Product Development Department. Basically, I’ll be working under her (yes, the IT director is a woman… go girl power!)
as a Senior Software Engineer with the specific task as a Builds and Deployment Manager. She was really nice, and very accomodating. Even if she’s the highest ranking person in the department, it’s so easy to talk to her and she even jokes around making me feel comfortable to discuss with her some questions and clarifications I have regarding my work. Her words regarding their plans for me are very inspiring. I really felt like that the future would be bright for me as long as I give my best. Prior to me starting with the company, she had already organized how I would move on with my career and already have plans of expanding the scope of my job and rank as well. That’s really cool! ![]()
The IT Director then introduced me to my Project Manager to whom I’ll be directly be reporting to. This guy is no different from from the IT Director since he’s also very accomodating and seems to be very approachable. Well he introduced me to the other members of the team and I think I’m cool with the team members. They are all smiles and very friendly. ![]()
I was surprised when my PM introduced me to the QA Manager since he discussed something about the “Team of Peers”. I’m not familiar with the term but he said that I’m a member of this Team of Peers which basically are the decision makers in the Product Development Department. There would be 5 of us, the Software Architect, Project Manager, QA Manager, Development Manager, and me. Whoah! This is cool! (I said to myself). This somehow means that I’m in a senior level wherein I have a say in the company, and would be able to influence how my department would be dealing with product development. In short, I’m up, up, and away in the corporate ladder! This is my chance to fulfill my goals! ![]()
After all the orientations and introductions, I proceeded with the boring part…reading product introductory materials, watching videos on business ethics, and then read again. Geesh! I really felt so sleepy while reading stuffs but I really think reading those docs is really important to help me get jump started with my new job.
Well, it was really a busy day.. not so fun, but very fruitful! ![]()

ET – Yup, things are really so new to me. There are a lot of rules and regulations to abide to and work seems to be very systematic here. It’s good though that the bosses aren’t that stiff and strict and are very accomodating. Well, I think it won’t be long ’til I get the hang of this.
Tseri – That’s one thing I’m quite sad about. Back in our office, I always made sure that new employees would feel at home as soon as possible, but here, nobody is doing the same thing to me. Maybe they are just too busy with work to mind me, or it’s just that people like me are rare this days.
MRT – Di naman, nangagati nga ako eh. Di ako sanay sa ganitong mga furnitures. ANAK PAWIS FOREVER!!!

I agree with Tseri, ako din nung first day ko, grabe sobrang at home na ako dahil sa kakulitan mo. Hehe.
