Today, during my 3rd month for my current company, I was asked by my manager to spend some time for a 1-on-1 talk for my evaluation. I was a but anxious about how this would turn out, since I’m not really sure how they see my performance or if they really think I’m an effective member of the team. Well, as far as I know, I’m doing what I can to live up to their expectations.

Then it started. It was rather a short performance evaluation discussion, and as I may say, it turned out pretty well. I got positive feedbacks from my managers, and I’m glad they appreciate what I’m doing for the company. My strong points were mostly on my competence regarding my work as well as being able to help out in some process glitches with the different projects I’m working on. More or less, I think they were impressed with the way I handled things as well as my knowledge with my tasks.

Sad to say though, I have one negative feedback and it’s regarding my hesitations to talk to the higher-ups. Well, they really can’t blame me since I’m still in the stage of trying to get a feel of the people I’m working with. It’s just a matter of time though ’til I would learn how to approach or communicate with them without causing any issues or simply being able to express myself and my ideas more effectively. My boss understands me as well, and it’s really something normal for someone who’s just working for 3 months in a company. There may be some exceptional people who may be that expressive and doesn’t really care how people around them would react with the way they communicate, well that’s me. Besides, I came from a country where politeness and courtesy at works means a lot, that sometimes it tends to be too much that it’s not leaning anymore on the positive side. I just hope I don’t get to that point.

I just hope I can keep up what I started and continue to contribute and work effectively in my current job. :)
