VMWare Fusion had been giving me some problems with Spaces with its last 2 software updates, and its very annoying actually. As a developer, I usually designate different desktops or “spaces” for specific functions or apps that I use for my day to day work. This helps me to be more organized with my work and unclutter my apps. One screen, holds my email and IM app, another holds my browsers, and then another screen is dedicated to a virtual appliance (usually Linux) in full screen mode under VMWare Fusion. This had been working well for me for quite some time, until Fusion had issues whenever I switch back from another desktop back to my virtual appliance.

The issue here is with regards to keyboard input. For some reason, whenever I go to another desktop space and then back to Fusion using Ctrl-<number>, the keyboard input on Linux starts to go berzerk. Typing right away after the desktop switch behaves abnormally, and even mouse controls just doesn’t respond to what I intend to do (e.g. scroll zooms in or out my browser, etc.). I had to press Ctrl-Q to fix this issue and normalize keyboard and mouse input on the virtual appliance and it’s just doesn’t feel right to do it all the time. Not only is this happening to a Linux virtual appliance but also on Windows. This was not the case before, but as I’ve said this only started for the last 2 software updates of Fusion. I even tried re-installing Leopard and Fusion on my MacBook Pro, but still the same problem occurs, so I would suppose this is a bug or something. I still haven’t found a solution to this problem but will keep on looking.
