VMWare Server Beta Unclear Update Error

I updated the kernel of one of my dedicated servers where VMWare Server 2 Beta is installed and decided to restart it. When I logged on to the VMWare Server web admin interface, I was surprised to see that all my virtual appliances failed to start, and the weird thing is I only saw “A general error occured” message in the error details.

This error message doesn’t really make sense. It doesn’t even give the slightest clue as to where to start debugging. So I ended up Googling around and found out that this is an issue on the VMWare Server version I am running. It seems like this is a way for VMWare Server to force you to upgrade when you are using their beta version. I do agree that as a beta test user, you should be pro-active on upgrades or updates, but for heaven’s sake, can’t they make it more clearer on their error messages? Is it too hard to put a “A new update is available. Please update your version to continue using this product.”? Oh well, they may have a reason for doing this, but definitely I don’t get the point.
