Getting Fit with the Wii Fit
I managed to play a bit of Wii Fit which Aphilo and I bought for a relative and I must say that I enjoyed it a lot and for those seeking to add up some spice with their Wii console gaming experience, this is one gadget I highly recommend. ![]()
I don’t think though that it would be something that can replace a fitness club experience. It doesn’t come close actually to all the things you can do inside the gym, but definitely the Wii Fit would be able to help you out to get moving and overcome that sedentary lifestyle. Moreover, being able to work out your body and enjoy the game play would be able to give you a bit of motivation to burn some calories and lose some unwanted weight. Having said that, I don’t think the Wii Fit would be able to burn that much calories, compared to the real thing, but at least it gets a bit of the job done.
I tried that Balance Games first, and it’s a bit akward at first but once you get the hang of it, it becomes much easier to play these games. Then I tried Strength Training to see how I can benefit from it. After doing some of its exercises, I was able to conclude that it won’t be able replace the experience of grinding metal and pumping your muscles until they are about to burst when working out at the gym, but it provides a way for you to focus on core strength and maybe a bit of muscle toning as well. Aphilo and I even laughed a bit, when I tried the push-up exercises for 6 reps and the Virtual Trainer commented that I am not strong enough for these exercise. It’s funny ‘coz I just went to the gym that morning, and was able to max out my bench press to 60kg/132lbs, and dead lift to 80kg/176lbs. If it’s true that I am not strong enough to even do 6 reps of push-ups, then maybe the weights at my gym are lying. I think it’s just the way I had put pressure on the Wii Fit, and not being able to follow the movement of the Virtual Trainer that failed me with these exercise. ![]()
I really think the Wii Fit is worth buying if you want to do some basic home exercises, and also to motivate you on losing weight in a fun and simple way. ![]()

There’s really no substitute for the real thing when it comes to weight loss or strength training.
