Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB New Bright Blue (2nd Generation)Most of us would want to hear some of our favorite pump-up tunes while working out in the gym. I think it’s add some significant amount of motivation when going for that additional reps or kill that boredom when running at the thread mill or stationary bike.

In my case I already have an iPod Video (60GB), but when I tried using it at the gym. It was so bulky and uncomfortable when I put it in my gym shorts’ pocket or even when used with an arm band. It just makes me more conscious that it might fall down or when it goes out of place rather than focus on my work out. It was then that I realized that my good ‘ol iPod Video is not for gym use at all.

So off I went to some nearby computer shops to get a new MP3 player that I can use solely for the gym. I decided that it still should be an iPod so I can easily sync it with my iTunes on Mac. I then saw this new iPod Nano Vide and iPod shuffle. At first I was more into getting the new iPod Nano but then I realized that the arm band and pocket issue might still arise. Though it’s a lot smaller than my iPod video I think its size would still make it a bit more uncomfortable. I just don’t like the idea of having something in my pocket when doing declined bench presses or having an arm band when doing dumbell curls. Moreover, with the more or less $170 price tag, it might just be an overkill if I just use it at the gym. Thanks to Aphilo, for helping me realize this issues. :D

So I turned my eyes on the 2nd Generation iPod Shuffle (2GB). It was pretty small, light weight, and have a built-in clip so I can virtually clip it anywhere I want while working out. As soon as I got my hands on it and felt it in my palm, I bought it at a very cheap price of just around $58. It doesn’t really have that much functionality compared to the iPod Video or iPod Nano, but with the purpose of just using it at the gym, I think it’s well worth the price and its features. Considering that it’s just a play-and-go MP3 player without any sort of LCD display, or not allowing you to choose what specific song you want to hear or change playlists, it’s really good enough for me. What I did was to just create a “Gym Tunes” playlist in my iTunes which contains all my workout songs (mostly heavy metal and hard rock by the way) and sync it on my Shuffle. So when I get to the gym, I just clip it under my shirt or my shorts, press the play button, adjust the volume, and off I go to my workout. It’s that simple and just the way I like it. ;)

So for those who simply wants to hear your favorite tunes while working out, without having to worry about cumbersome gadgets, and basically focus more on your workouts rather than messing around with your MP3 players, then this one cool gadget I highly recommend. B-)

My Ipod is also my gym buddy. It would be very boring to do exercises without music.
