Seldom do I get to wish for something for Christmas since I am not really fond of receiving gifts. I had always been fond of giving but not receiving. Maybe it’s because as a child, I never really looked forward on receiving anything for any occassion. That’s a long story to tell which is for me to keep. ![]()
But this year, there’s really something I want to receive. Not necessarily from someone, but I want to give it to myself as a reward for a hard year’s work or maybe just a little something to give myself as a fruit of my labor.
Here’s the story.
I had always been a coffee lover and in the past several months I had been thinking of getting an espresso machine for home use. Well, I can also consider it for office use since me and Aphilo both work at home so our home has been our office for quite some time now and we are both coffee lovers. So I tried to look around for the different brands or models locally available, as well as user reviews so as to see what would best fit our needs, especially our budget.
Then just the other day, while strolling at Shangri-La Plaza in Ortigas, I passed by Rustan’s applicance center and decided to look around for espresso machines there. It was then that I noticed the Jura Super Automatic Espresso Machines displayed in one corner. The salesman of Jura was so accomodating and explained to me the details about the different models when I got near their products. He even gave me a cup of espresso made by one of their machines for a free taste. I must say that their machines produce great tasting coffee and the crema can be perfectly seen with every drink. In short I’m impressed and suddenly their Jura ENA5 machine became my “What I want for Christmas.” ![]()
Problem is the Jura ENA5 is quite an expensive piece of machinery. With all its automatic features wherein you can create an espresso, latte, or even a cappucino with just a push of a button, you have to spend around P70K to get this baby. It’s much cheaper if you buy it in the US since it’s just $1,199 but shipping cost might be pretty expensive since it’s quite big and heavy. I’m having second thoughts buying it since I already purchased a car this year, so this would significantly increase our annual expenses, and besides I never planned buying one this year so no budget has been allocated for this. I can actually afford it, but being able to afford something doesn’t necesarrily mean that it’s a wise buy or it’s a must-buy.
I’m still thinking a bit if I should get this or not. It has also been a bit more tempting considering that I can pay this up for 6 months at 0% interest if I used my credit card. I really want it, and just the idea of having that perfect cup of espresso or cafe americano whenever I want just excites me and my coffee lover side. Right now, I am at “70% buy – 30% don’t buy” scenario and just waiting for a sign if I should go for this baby or not. We’ll see.. ![]()
