This is just an update for my previous post “What I Want For Christmas“.

Finally, I now have my own super automatic espresso machine at home with my new Jura ENA5. The decision to buy it came after the sign I was waiting for came to me and after some budget adjustments I did with our finances. So off I went to the mall with Aphilo and bought this nifty little piece of machinery as a Christmas gift for myself as well as a reward for my hard work. I had thought of ordering it from the US and having it shipped here since it would be more or less 5K cheaper, but I decided to just go for the local distributor since they offer 2 years warranty and the 6 months 0% interest payment scheme was really budget friendly. Moreover, I was promised by the salesman that he would give me coffee freebies such as all their coffee beans blend and syrups. So who am I to resist such offer? :D

The unit arrived this afternoon, and Aphilo and I were so happy with its features and the quality of coffee it produces.  Aphilo really loved the cappucino since the milk froth and the normal strength espresso was perfect for her taste. For me, the double shot of strong espresso really made my day and quenched my caffeine thirst.

You can view the full feature of Jura ENA5 here.

For us our most adored features are:

  • Energy Saving – This is one of my main concern on using a super automatic espresso machine. Because of the heat and steam it needs to generate, I am pretty sure that it would consume a significant amount of electricity especially if it continues to generate heat even on standby or when you’re not making coffee. Jura ENA5 addresses this issue by letting you set a time wherein it would disable its thermobloc to to conserve electricity as well as an auto-off feature after being idle for quite some time. In my case, I had set the thermobloc to be disabled after 5 minutes of the last coffee cup, and then turn itself off after 30 minues of being idle. I guess this would suffice my needs since I don’t really drink coffee every hour or so and not having to manually turn off the machine or unplug it from the power source is really cool.
  • Ease of Use – Aphilo is a non-techie person and she was able to make her own cappucino with ease. With the small LCD display infront of the unit, you can easily select the strength of your coffee, how many ounces of coffee you want, and even how hot you want your coffee. The froth system also works like a charm and its a no-brainer to create that perfect milk froth, hot water or steam you need for your cup of coffee. At least that’s an advantage for me wherein Aphilo can make her own coffee and not disturb me to make one for her.
  • Coffee Taste – I may not be a coffee expert but I know a thing or two in knowing if a coffee is good or not. For my taste, the espresso that this machine makes is just perfect (at least for me). I loved how the crema is so visible on every cup as well as how the bitterness is of just the right level which is oftentimes not the case when improper brewing method and grinding are used.
  • Maintenance – Cleaning and maintaing this machine is pretty plain and simple. It tells you everthing you need to do for maintenance such as when there’s no more coffee beans or water, when its time to change your water filter, when its time to empty the drip tray or your grounded coffee tray, etc. It even tells you when to decalsify your machine or when to clean your easy cappucino maker accessory. For me, this really is something of significance especially when you want this pretty expensive machine to last for a long time and be worth of every penny you spend with it.

Now what’s left for me to test is how durable and reliable this machine is after a long time of use. I really hope that it would pass these tests since the price tag is something that you want to make use of for several years. In my case, I hope it would last 3 years or more without having to spend more bucks for its parts and labor. It’s a good thing though that my unit comes with a 2 year warranty so I don’t really need to worry that much for the next 2 years

So I guess for now, Aphilo and I would need to bid Starbucks goodbyel since we have our own barista at home with our Jura ENA5. ;)
