Every now and then I get this new message on my Friendster’s Inbox from some gorgeous looking chic about free cellphones. It’s kinda weird and definitely it’s a spam so I after trying one of the links I get forwarded to a friendster profile page of someone and then to another website that just loops between 1st.php and 2nd.php which are both blank pages (e.g. http://example.com/1st.php and http://example.com/2nd.php). I’m not sure if this spreads any virus, spyware or any malicious software but out of curiosity and since I am using a Mac which is less prone to such things, I decided to try the links. As expected, it’s just plain non-sense.
Another weird thing about Friendster nowadays is you get a comment from one of your friends in your list which advertises a live sex webcam site. It’s not just a plain text comment but rather with some image attachements of a pretty and sexy girl infront of a webcam. It’s definitely some kind of hack within Friendster’s system or a user’s profile in order for this things to happen and I just hope the people behind Friendster are aware of this.
Another similar spam spreading issue just like what’s happening with Friendster is with Yahoo Messenger. Sometimes, I suddenly get an IM from one of my friends/contacts advertising fat loss products. It’s pretty annoying actually especially if you are in the middle of doing some serious work infront of your PC/notebook. I think this just shows that any site or Internet related services are not safe and we just have to be very vigilant with what we do in the Internet as to not be victimized by any malicious software, viruses, scams, or worst leaking out our personal and financial information. Let’s just treat the Internet as a cool place to be in, but still not somewhere we can put our guards down. ![]()
